Malaysia’s Biggest, Tallest, Oldest and Best

While Malaysia may not be a big or as well-known globally as China, India, Europe or the USA, it is a country that holds many world records. Here are some of Malaysia’s oldest, tallest, biggest and bests. 

Taman Negara – The World’s Oldest Rainforest
Transecting the states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, Taman Negara, which was founded in 1938 as the King George the V National Park is the world’s oldest rainforest. It is more than 130 million years old, and because it lies on the equator, its ancient jungles were not destroyed by the ice ages. There are few places on earth with more wildlife and plant species than Taman Negara, and the park is home to more than 14,000 species of plants, 240 types of trees and 200 mammals including Sumatran rhinoceros, Great Argus, Malayan Tiger, and Asian elephant.

The Sarawak Chamber – The World’s Largest Cave Chamber
In Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, you’ll find the world’s largest cave chamber in Gua Nasib Bagus, or Good Luck Cave. It was discovered by British cavers, Andy Eavis, Dave Checkley and Tony White in 1981, and named the Sarawak Chamber. This chamber is 700 metres long, 400 metres wide and at least 70 metres high, and large enough that is can fit 40 Boeing 747s comfortable. If you're visiting Gunung Mulu, it is also worth exploring Clearwater Cave which houses one of the world’s largest underground river systems, and Deer Cave, where you can see an awe-inspiring exodus of millions of bats in the evenings.

Petronas Towers – The World’s Tallest Twin Towers
At 542 metres, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur are the tallest twin buildings in the world. Both towers have 88 floors and on the 41st and 42nd floors, is a double decker skybridge, which also happens to be the highest two-story bridge in the world. You can enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the city from this skybridge, which connects the two towers.

Barracuda Point, Sipadan – World’s Best Dive Site
While it’s not official, serious divers and marine life enthusiasts all say that Barracuda Point in the Sipadan Islands is the best dive site in the world. There are few places where you will see a constant stream of pelagic fish, hammerhead sharks and shoals of barracuda. The sheer variety and level of activity in Barracuda Point is a dream come true for underwater photographers. 

Mount Kinabalu – The Home of the World’s Largest Flower
At 4,095 meters above sea level, Mount Kinabalu in Sabah is the tallest mountain in the Malaysia, and a favourite destination for hikers and nature lovers. It is recognized as one the most important biological sites in the world as it is home to more than 5,000 species of plants, over 100 mammals like the orang utan and Borneo ferret-badger, and more than 300 species of birds. Mount Kinabalu is also home to the largest flower in the world, the parasitic Rafflesia, which has flowers that grow up to 37 inches in diameter. 

Batu Caves – The World’s Tallest Statue of Murugan
Lord Murugan, the Hindu deity of youth, vitality and happiness is worshipped by many Hindus in Malaysia, and the tallest Murugan statue in the world can be found here in Batu Caves, a 400 million year old limestone hill with a series of caves situated about 15 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur. Constructed with 1,550 cubic metres of concrete, 250 tons of steel and 300 litres of gold paint, the gilded 42.7 metre long statue costs US$670,000 to build.

Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre – The World’s Largest Orang Utan Sanctuary
There are only about 30,000 orang utans left in the world and they can be found in Borneo and Sumatra. The Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre in the town of Sandakan in Sabah was set up in 1964 to save orphaned baby orang utans. Today, it is the largest orange utan sanctuary in the world with about 80 apes living freely on the 4,300-hectare reserve and about 25 babies living in the nurseries. The centre is open for public visits so you can observe the apes in their natural habitat.

Photographer Sees Stunning Auroras Over Swedish Mountains

SPACE.com - Northern lights glow over skywatchers high in the Swedish mountains 

The northern lights dance in a breathtaking display in these stunning images from an aurora video recently sent to Space.com.

Night sky photographer Chad Blakley captured these intense auroras grooving over several Swedish Lapland locations, including a small hotel high in the Swedish mountains, on Feb. 21. The result: aspectacular video of Sweden's northern lights display.

"This display was one of the best of the year and we are hopeful that the final four weeks of the season will continue to impress," Blakley wrote Space.com in an email. "The show started as soon as the sun went down and continued well into the night — long after my cameras had frozen and all of my batteries had died." Vivid auroras like those seen in Blakley's images are caused by charged particles from the sun (the solar wind) that interact with the Earth's upper atmosphere (at altitudes above 50 miles, or 80 km), causing a glow.

The particles are drawn to Earth's polar regions by the planet's magnetic field. The auroras over the North Pole are known as the aurora borealis, or northern lights. The lights over the South Pole are known as the aurora australis, or southern lights. When the aurora is most active, it creates a spectacular display of bright colors called the aurora corona.

"Before we know it, the midnight sun will return and we will have to patiently wait for the auroras to return later this autumn," Blakley said.

Singapore is widely ridiculed for have having some of the world’s most stringent behavioral edicts. There are all kinds of laws prohibiting public uncleanliness in this spic-and-span city-state. Spitting and littering will cost you a fine, vandalism will get you a caning, it is illegal to sell chewing gum, and don’t even think about declining to flush a public toilet.

Venice, Italy

Bhutan

People can import small amounts of tobacco for personal consumption, but if they’re caught using, they must produce receipts to prove they paid import duties (which run from 100-200%).

Thailand

Lèse majesté, which makes it a crime to insult or accuse the king, is strictly enforced inThailand. Imprisonment can occur even when you insult deceased kings. Defaming members of the court and even ordinary citizens can be punishable by jail time and/or fines. Note that defacing or disrespecting currency can also carry a jail sentence, because coins and bills show the image of the majesty—so you can’t step on money, even when trying to stop it from flying or rolling away. Let it go

Greece

You’d have to be a terminal fashion victim to want to tour archeological sites in stilettos, but in case common sense hasn’t prevailed, the law in Greece might. It is illegal to wear high heels when visiting the Acropolis and other historical sites, as those fashionable spikes tend to damage the ancient monuments

Bersama 4 rakan sekerja En Weil, Midi, dan Abg Baha... kami mula bertolak ke LCCT dari K. Terengganu. Programnya adalah lawatan Ke Labuan selama 3 hari 2 malam.
Sampai di KLIA kami plan nak ke Putrajaya nak ronda-ronda kat Alamanda.

Time check hotel banyak yang penuh, cari rumah tumpangan kat Putrajaya kat Presint 9. Jadi malam ni kami tidur kat Hotel Presint 9. Suite 3 Bilik satu bilik air. Memang amat selesa untuk kami berempat yang 'bujang' di rantau.

Sempatlah ronda sekejap di Alamanda. Lama dah tak datang sini. My friend's Midi ajak main bowling. Bolehlah sekadar nak melepaskan gian yang dah lama tak main bowling. Average performance adalah 135-160.

Malam kami dinner kat presint 9 dan sempat jumpa tuan punya rumah tumpangan Abg Man, orang Kelantan. Banyak pula sembangnya sambl bertukar-tukar pendapat. Lain kali kalau ada urusan kat Putrajaya rasanya selesa tinggal rumah tumpangan macam ni. Ada TV aircond, freezer serta kitchen kira oklah. Harganya pun OK dalam RM100 ++.

Malam kena tidur awal sebab jam 5 sudah kena bertolak ke LCCT untuk ke Labuan, flight jam 7.35pg.

Jam 5 pagi kami bertolak ke LCCT.
Kami sampai di Labuan jam 10.00 pagi dan sudah ada pegawai LPP Labuan yang menunggu di airport iaitu Hj Rahman dan pilot Mr Zakaria @ Z. Kami dibawa ke pejabat LPP Labuan dan diperkenakan dengan Timbalah Pengarah Cik Nurul Ain.

Destinasi pertama kami di sini ialah ke Projek IKS Usahawan Peladang Mi Lidi Mat Salleh kat Kg Bukit Kuda. Begitu gigih pakcik tua (En Mat Salleh) dan isteri mengusahakan projek ini untuk menyara keluarga dan rezeki.

Walaupun projek ini kecil-kecilan, ianya berkesan dan mendapat sambutan yang memberangsangkan.

Destinasi kedua kami adalah Taman Burung Labuan. Kami diiring oleh Pengurus Taman iaitu Pn Fatmawati yang baru mengambil alih tugas disini. Kami dibawa melawat disekeliling taman dimana terdapat pelbagai burun eksotik di sini. yang paling menarik adalah maskotnya iaitu Burung Mahkota.

Kami dimaklumkan, taman ini kekurangan dana untuk penyelenggaraan dan penambahbaikan, namn ia masih dapat diuruskan walaupun dengan budget yang terhad. Kami meninjau seluruh kawasan serta landskap disini. Rumusannya, kemudahan disini amat baik cuma ianya perlu diberi daya kreatif dan inovatif untuk terus menjadi destinasi kunjungan utama ke Labuan.

Kami dibawa makan tengahari di bandar Labuan dimana Pengarah LPPLabuan En Mat Tazari sedia menunggu kedatangan kami untuk sama-sama makan tengahari.

Acara Bebas

Selepas makan tengahari, kami mula mengorak untuk mencari penginapan, berdasarkan jadual kami dijangka menginap di Hotel Waterfront Labuan, apabila kami bertanya untuk check in ianya telah penuh. Terpaksa kami menjelajah hotel ke hotel untuk menginap malam ini. akhirnya kami dapat bilik di HotelLabuan Inn. Bolehlah untuk menginap malam pertama. Dapat bilik betul-betul depan lobi.

kami berehat seketika . Waktu petang, meronda disekitar bandar Labuan. Yang murah di sini adalah coklat, rokok serta liquor dan kain sutera.

Kami dibawa makan malam di restoran seafood Terumbu Warisan Kg Tg Aru Labuan. Menu kami Ketam Stim, Udang Butter, Ikan Bakar, Tomyam, sayur pucuk manis dan telur dadar, harganya boleh tahan jugak dalam RM150 untuk 5 orang.

malam ini kami berehat untuk destinasi seterusnya esok.
